Before any fabric is woven, its threads need to be sorted and brought into place. A Zettlerei is where the warp is prepared.
We borrowed the name because our work often begins the same way: gathering ideas, people and tools that don't usually sit together, then figuring out what we can make with them.
Zettlerei grew out of work that was already happening. Since 2021, we've pursued independent projects in architecture, art, design and software, sometimes on our own and often alongside artists, collectives and teams from other companies.
In 2025, we brought those different paths together under one name. Today, Zettlerei is a small, independent studio based in Cologne. Our collaborators change from one project to the next, and we like it that way.
One idea might become a space or a physical object. Another might turn into an interactive website, a tool for working with spatial data or an experiment with AI. We move between architecture, computational design, digital fabrication and software engineering because the work rarely fits into just one category.
The most interesting moment is when an idea meets reality. Can we build it? Does it work the way we imagined? And can someone else actually use it?
Zettlerei was founded by Gökalp Yiğit Denktaş, an architect (B.Arch.), computational designer (M.Eng.) and software developer. His path has taken him through independent architecture projects, the co-founding of digital methods Collective, design competitions and collaborations with artists on exhibitions.
These days, his work ranges from BIM and spatial-data software to web applications and AI engineering, including experiments with agents and language models. Across those different fields, he keeps coming back to how ideas from design can become tools that people can work with.
